A look back over an exciting 2013

It is very hard to believe that it is already 2014! It feels as though it was only September a few days ago! For my first blog post of 2014 I said I would have a look back over a very exciting and jam packed 2013 for Beyond The Wild Garden.

I think jam packed really is the best word to describe the year that I have had blogging! The blog itself saw some big changes with its small facelift thanks to the lovely Linda Byrne and her great cartoon she drew for the blog. I have to admit I am still in awe of it and think it looks so cool!!

cropped-beyondthewildgardenlogo.jpgIt may have to be updated though to include the new addition to my gardening pack. The arrival of Lola has definitely changed the way my garden looks… she still loves to sleep in flower pots, she is learning though!!

lola2One of the big projects in 2013 was establishing my vegetable patch down the end of my garden. This will continue to be a big project for 2014 as I make it slightly bigger to include some fruit bushes and experiment with different vegetables. Watch this space as I get started!!

Cabbage ProtectionSeptember saw one chapter of my life come to an end when I graduated my horticulture degree from UCD. While one chapter closed another one opened nearly the same week as I started my masters in journalism in Griffth College so it really has been a busy year.

GraduationOne of the major highlights of my year had to be the recognition the blog got. I had the big honour of being a finalist in two different categories of the Blog Awards Ireland. More surprising for me was the fact the blog won an international award! Winning The Garden Bloggers Hall of Fame in America was utterly amazing and I have to admit the trophy is rather pretty to look at!

IMG_0614I don’t think I would have achieved half of what I have so far without the support of everyone that reads it and those who follow me around as I take an endless number of photos so a big thank you to everyone for your support in the last year.

With the New Year underway now I can’t wait to see what 2014 will be like and look forward to bringing everyone along the journey with me!
